Jam Session Brings Together Students From Around the Area

Last Saturday's jam session at North City Bistro was well attended! Along with Mountlake Terrace High School musicians, Roosevelt HS, Lake Washington HS, and Brier Terrace Middle School joined in the fun. Throughout the two hour jam session, students mixed it up with each group have a different arrangement of instruments. Edmonds Rotary Daybreakers Club Donates $4,500 to MTHS Jazz

The Edmonds Rotary Daybreakers Club donated $4,500 to the Mountlake Terrace High School Jazz Program in support of Jazz 1's trip to New York to participate in the Essentially Ellington Competition. The funds will be used to ensure students with additional financial needs are fully supported for their New York trip. Band Director Darin Faul spoke at this morning's Daybreakers meeting before receiving the check. Jazz 1 Shines at Starbucks’ Hot Java Cool Jazz

Jazz 1 put on a show for the audience at 2025 Starbucks' Hot Java Cool Jazz concert held at the Paramount Theatre! We're very proud of their musicianship and representation of our area. The band performed Groovin’ Hard (Don Menza), Concerto for Cootie (Duke Ellington), Back to the Apple (Frank Foster), and Kinda Dukish / Rockin' In Rhythm (Duke Ellington). The crowd showed their appreciation with a standing ovation at the end! Also demonstrating why the Puget Sound area is so rich with jazz, Garfield, Bothell, Mount Si, and Roosevelt high school jazz bands performed fantastic sets! Enjoy this video...

Chad Eby Provides Clinic to Jazz 1 In Preparation for Essentially Ellington

On March 19, jazz educator, Chad Eby, provided a workshop for Jazz 1 in support of their Essentially Ellington appearance in May. Chad offered excellent insight into improving the songs, while also ensuring that Jazz 1 played their own take on the songs. All jazz bands selected to participate in Essentially Ellington receives a 4-hour workshop from a renowned jazz education/musician. These free workshops help musicians prepare for the competition.
