The Music Boosters handed out a newsletter at the end of the year Band concert at Brier Terrace Middle School last night in preparing incoming freshman and their families. The Rotary Club of Edmonds Daybreakers sponsors the 17th annual Edmonds Jazz Connection Festival on Saturday, May 20th, 2017 in downtown Edmonds. The all-day event includes high school, middle school, and college jazz bands to help raise funds to support an exceptional music education experience throughout our region. Jazz trumpet great Terell Stafford plays for one night at MTHS. Jazz 1 and Jazz 2/3 will participate in a clinic with Mr Stafford and will then perform in concert with him at the MTHS theater at 7 p.m. Suggested $5 donation for admission. Mr. Stafford is also the current Program Director of Jazz Studies at the Boyer College of Music and Dance at Temple University.

Starting with open rehearsal at 10:30 am PT, you can watch all three days of the Essentially Ellington competition in New York City featuring Mountlake Terrace and 14 other jazz bands. Best place to head is the Jazz at Lincoln Center streaming page: https://livestream.com/jazz. There is page for each day, and you should be able to hear MLT along with two other Washington State bands (Edmonds-Woodway and Mount Si) at the open rehearsal today. The end of the school year is within site, but not before Jazz heads to NYC, Orchestra to Disneyland, and Choir to Sliverwood this month. Also, we moved the Boosters meetings a week (now on Monday, 5/15). We will be holding elections in June and would like to hear from you if you are interested. We will post the positions and answer questions at this month's meeting, and you can always reach out to the current board. An evening of swing dancing, live music and dessert to send the Jazz Ensemble 1 to Essentially Ellington in style! The event starts at 7 pm and is open to the public. Admission: $5 ages 5-18 | $10 adults | $25 families Admission includes swing dance lesson, live performances by Jazz 1 and 2 & a dessert buffet. All proceeds benefit Jazz Ensemble 1's trip to New York City to compete at Essentially Ellington in May.
