Mountlake Terrace High School Jazz 1 was selected to perform at the acclaimed Essentially Ellington Jazz Band Competition & Festival for the second year in a row.

From the 119 schools that submitted recordings this year, Jazz 1 was one of 20 high school jazz bands in the country selected as finalists. 

We invite you to partner with us as a sponsor and join other businesses in underwriting the Jazz 1 trip to New York. Your sponsorship will help raise the essential funds needed for this prestigious trip, while showcasing your commitment to creating positive change for our musicians and the band program.

About Essentially Ellington

Bringing the country’s best high school jazz musicians together, the event will be held on April 30 – May 2, 2026, at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, located at Broadway and 60th Street in New York.

Now in its 31st year, Essentially Ellington offers jam sessions, workshops and performances in addition to the competition, while fostering a vibrant, worldwide community dedicated to the music and legacy of Duke Ellington

About Mountlake Terrace Jazz Program

Mountlake Terrace is no stranger to participating at Essentially Ellington. Under the direction of Darin Faul, Jazz 1 is an 11-time finalist in the Essentially Ellington Jazz Band Competition. Mountlake Terrace High School Jazz Bands are honored regularly at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow, Idaho, and at Starbucks’ Hot Java Cool Jazz in Seattle, Washington. Students have received top solo and group honors at regional and national competitions, and have been featured in All-State and All-Northwest music groups.

About Mountlake Terrace High School Band Boosters

Mountlake Terrace High School Band Boosters is an all parent volunteer organization supporting the Band Program to deliver excellent music education to every band student at Mountlake Terrace High School.

The Band Boosters fundraise to ensure every band student is provided the same performance and travel experience through scholarships, to purchase new and upgrade existing musical equipment, to bring professional musicians into the classroom for educational opportunities; and to cover costs associated with festival registration and travel fees.

The Band Boosters promote the band program in the community through in-person concerts, media outreach, and business partnerships.
