Darin Faul has been the band director at Mountlake Terrace High School since January of 1998. Four weeks in to his time there, Jazz 1 and 2 both won their respective categories at the Clark College Jazz Festival and Jazz 1 was the Sweepstakes Winner. Four weeks later Jazz 1 won their category at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival and things have not slowed a bit since those first days on the job.
In his time at Terrace the program has continued to grow and flourish. His bands are consistently among the best wherever they perform and have traveled far and wide sharing their music with diverse audiences. Trips have included New York (4 times), Hawaii, New Orleans, Reno, California, Oregon, San Juan Islands, Vancouver, and Europe (2002) for 16 days. In 2000, Jazz Ensemble 1 was a featured performing group at the Washington State Music Educator’s Conference with special guest Allen Vizzutti. In 2002, they were awarded 4th place at the prestigious Essentially Ellington Competition in NYC. Mr. Faul has recorded 4 CD’s that have been released and has a collection of many other performances that may soon be made available.
The band program at MTHS is very well rounded under Mr. Faul’s leadership. The program boasts three concert bands and two jazz bands. Besides strong numbers in his bands, the quality of his teaching is evident in both the skills of his students and the strength of the recordings Mr. Faul produced with his bands.
Mr. Faul is a native of Tacoma, WA.
